271  Yummy FTP / Problems & Bugs / Re: "Maintain modification dates of transferred files" not working? on: March 07, 2006, 05:03:04 AM
Welcome to the forum, and thank you for the very kind comments about my work Smiley

The mod date problem requires a fix in v1.1.5. I already fixed the problem in v1.1.6 but that is still undergoing further development and is therefore a beta. You're very welcome to try the latest beta build - just send me an email and I'll send you back the download link for it. Email me at support at yummysoftware dot com

Perhaps your server doesn't like multiple simultaneous connections. Try disabling the 'Allow multiple connections' checkbox in the Transfers tab of the Preferences.

This question isn't so much about FTP or even Yummy FTP, but more a question of how your web site is set up and/or your web hosting provider has things set up, and as such you should really contact your web hosting provider for assistance, but I will try to help... So, it's hard for me to say exactly what needs to be done, but in general, web sites have a home page which is accessed by the file "index.html". If you have an index.html file for your web site and you have uploaded it, make sure that it replaced the existing index.html file that is already there. Since the web site still says "under construction" I can only assume that the index.html file did not get replaced, so perhaps you should check to see where it is in the server listing - maybe it is in a sub folder named www for example. If that is the case, then you have uploaded all the files to the wrong place and you should move them.

Have a look again and see if you can figure it out from what I've said above. If you're still stuck, email me (support at yummysoftware dot com) and let me know your server connection details (server name/ip, username and password) and I will have a look for you and tell you what to do Smiley

274  Yummy FTP / Problems & Bugs / Re: no way to "save" so i don't have to re-enter info each time i open yummy? on: February 26, 2006, 02:30:51 PM
You're looking for Bookmarks.

Each time you close an FTP Browser that was initiated from the New Connection window, you are asked whether to save the connection details as a Bookmark. You should choose this option. You can also select 'Add Bookmark' from the Bookmarks menu at any time while in the FTP Browser or the New Connection Window. The Bookmark you save will be added to the Bookmarks menu - select it by name to re-open the connection.

Note that your Bookmarks can be organized and edited using the Bookmarks Viewer window, which is accessed by selecting 'Show All Bookmarks' from the Bookmarks menu.

Hope that helps

To conclude this thread, I connected to Rob's server. The problem is that the site is entirely Flash based, and Safari is caching the content. The only way changes can be seen is to 1) select the Empty Cache option in Safari, 2) Quit Sarari, 3) Re-launch Safari 4) Revisit the web site. This causes all the Flash content to be re-fetched from the server.

If there are several files of the same name (probably index.html ?) in various folders on the server, I can't possibly tell you which is the right one. You'll have to try each one in turn, I think. It sounds like you're editing the wrong file.

The only other thing I can suggest is that your web browser is showing you a cached version of your website. In Safari, for example, you can select 'Empty Cache' from the Safari menu. I would suggest quitting and restarting Safari after using that option.

Another possibility is that your ISP uses an web cache server and that server didn't yet update with a copy of your newly changed web site. But I think it's more likely to be one of the first two options.

Let me know how it goes - If you're still stuck, I can have a look at your server for you, if you are willing. Contact me via email for this ... support at yummysoftware dot com

Hi,

Is a file of the same name in the destination directory for the upload to the server? By default, you should be asked whether to replace a file of the same name when you start the upload if this is the case, but I assume you aren't getting that message. So, either you need to change directories on the server to where the file should be uploaded, or you have a sub folder selected on the server side and the file is being uploaded to that sub folder. In the latter case, de-select the sub folder.

Of course, you can also edit the file directly on the server, if it's any easier.

Let me know how it goes.

Editing with CSS Edit via Suffix Mapping changes would have also been disabled because the default editor could not be found. This is kind of a bug, since it shouldn't really need the default editor to be present in order to edit like this, but that's how it is right now. However, once you have your configuration set correctly, everything falls into place, as you have seen Smiley
279  Yummy FTP / Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Built in WHOIS feature on: February 21, 2006, 06:29:11 AM
While I'm happy to receive suggestions (and praise, thanks! Smiley), quite honestly I think it's a bad idea to add this type of functionality when there is already the free Network Utility application provided by Apple and installed by default - it gives you a very comprehensive whois feature, amongst other things.
280  Yummy FTP / Feedback & Suggestions / Re: folder location memory on: February 21, 2006, 06:20:12 AM
I think the individual options plus global defaults do provide the maximum flexibility.

As far as the sub-bookmark suggestion is concerned, that's an idea. It's like an extension to the Favorites system that is already implemented - although they are not shown within the Bookmarks Viewer window hierarchy and they are not linked local/remote, for each Bookmark you can define any number of favorite folders for both the Mac side and Server side.
281  Yummy FTP / Problems & Bugs / Re: Edit always inactive on: February 21, 2006, 06:11:37 AM
Hi and welcome!

Usually, the problem with the Edit option being disabled is because the default editor app cannot be found. Even though you have selected BBEdit from the popup menu in the Preferences, Yummy will ask Mac OS X where BBEdit is installed - if the OS says that BBEdit isn't installed then the Edit option will be disabled, and this is where the problem starts... The OS can 'lie' about whether an application is installed or not if the app is not 'trusted' by the OS. This is a newish security feature of Mac OS X.

To get around the problem, try the following:

1) Quit Yummy FTP
2) Make sure your BBEdit is installed in the Applications folder of your Mac OS X system disk.
3) Launch BBEdit, create a new document then save it to the Desktop. Quit BBEdit, then double click the document saved on the Desktop to launch BBEdit again.
4) Launch Yummy FTP

The Edit option should now be available.

If you continue to have difficulties, please contact me via email (support at yummysoftware dot com) so that we can discuss the matter further.

Yummy FTP does not currently offer iDisk support
283  Yummy FTP / Yummy FTP Talk / Re: Yummy FTP 'Lite' on: February 06, 2006, 11:02:50 AM
True, Fugu does not provide FTP...  hmmm

I think for the Alias, providing any browser at all begins to make it into a free FTP client, or starts to make it Yummy FTP 'Lite'. I don't think the Alias should provide any browser - it should be ultra-simple for people just to send stuff, and that is all.
284  Yummy FTP / Feedback & Suggestions / Re: HTTP-Proxy on: February 06, 2006, 10:32:16 AM
I have an existing feature request for it, but as yet I have not made any headway on this subject. Do you have any particular proxy? I have been in discussions with another Yummy FTP user who has a Squid server.
285  Yummy FTP / Yummy FTP Talk / Re: Yummy FTP 'Lite' on: February 06, 2006, 10:26:47 AM
Hi Wolfgang Smiley Glad to see you finally joined the forum!

I do like the stand alone FTP Alias, very much. I'll do this as soon as possible, but I think extending this to allow Server List only viewing might be too much to give away for free... unless maybe it is for viewing only - no upload/download from there.

There is Fugu already, which is free, which has the two pane view, so Yummy wouldn't be unique there.

I'm not sure about the lite version of Yummy FTP after all - there is perhaps too much competition in the free FTP client market. However, the free FTP Alias is pretty darned nice!
